BATMAN NINJA (2018): A New Perspective

Batman Ninja is an odd entry in the Batman mythos. A standalone story about Batman, his family, Catwoman, and some of his most iconic rogues time traveling into warring era japan to become feudal lords and fight mecha fights with support of an ancient mysterious bat ninja clan who are themselves guided by a time traveling phophecy is quite odd to describe, yet it exists nontheless, with a quick paced plot with plenty of jarring cuts to acompany it.

In between fights, it asks itself a question: take away all of Batman's fancy gadgets, his billionare status, his comfort zone, and what are you left with?

After finding out he is two years behind everyone else's arrival to Japan, throwing himself into a fight against the Joker and Harley only to lose to their half-built mecha and losing the Batmobile and most of his tech, he starts to spiral, even after he is rescued by the Bat Clan and the Bat Family, which only gets worse after he takes command and immediately is defeated by a combination of Catwoman's betrayal, Gorilla Grodd (who is himself the culprit behind the time traveling) teaming up with Two Face, and Joker just blowing himself up, which also causes him and Harley to get amnesia. Which lasts less than ten minutes of runtime. However, this fight causes Batman to end up soundly defeated, and costs him the rest of his technology, leaving him feeling like he has lost everything.

But he hasn't, as he soon realizes. Batman soon comes to the realization that he still has his body. He still has his will to fight. And most importantly: He still has his family who supports him no matter what. Batman hasn't lost everything, not yet.

It is thanks to this realization that Batman is able to shake off his temporary hopelessness and return to coming up with a plan: that of combining their modern tactics with Japan's own strengths, and create a more cohesive force. Unlike his enemies, which singlemindedly focus on that which they know and do not think the enviroment they are in can add anything to their arsenal, Batman learns from them and becomes a stronger batman. A Batman who is still Batman, despite having no money, no technology, no Gotham. Because he still has that which is really important: his body, his will to fight and finally, his allies in his fight against crime.

...And of course, his own mecha constructed of a fusion between bats and monkeys (who were befriended by Robin/Damian Wayne over the course of the movie). As is expected from this genre of movie.
